Suppressed Immune Systems and Yeast Infection

Having a yeast infection is uncomfortable and annoying What some people do not know is that yeast is always present in your body

Having a yeast infection is uncomfortable and annoying. What some people do not know is that yeast is always present in your body. The overabundance of yeast or candida albicans is a problem. Microorganisms called pathogenic yeasts cause infection. They thrive on mucus membranes and can multiple quickly if good bacteria such as Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli are lowered. Yeast infections develop in the mouth, throat, tongue and female genitalia can cause irritation, redness and a burning sensation. People all of all ages can be infected with yeast rashes and especially individuals with weak immune systems.

Yeast Infection in Pregnancy

Pregnant women are more likely to have yeast infections especially in the vagina and surrounding area. This is because Estrogen levels are high during pregnancy which causes moisture in the vagina which can breed yeast. Another factor in the increased rate of yeast infections in pregnancy is due to increased sugar in a women?s body. Yeast thrives on sugar and will multiple quickly when sugar is present.

When treating yeast infection in pregnancy, you need to make sure that the itching, burning and redness that you are experiencing is definitely a yeast infection. These symptoms are also common in bacterial infection and Sexually Transmitted Diseases. It is important for the health of yourself and your baby that you consult a physician to make sure exactly what is causing your symptoms so you can be treated appropriately.

If you have a yeast infection, you will not be able to take the usual oral medication for yeast rashes, Diflucan. Diflucan is known to cause congenital disorders in babies whose mothers took it during pregnancy. Instead, your doctor will prescribe you a topical cream or ointment for the treatment of the infection.

Yeast Diaper Rash

Infants and babies are also susceptible to yeast infections because of their immature immune systems and diapers. Diapers harbor moisture, which is an excellent environment for yeast to grow. Foods can also cause yeast if the baby is sensitive to the type of food digested. Babies can also get yeast diaper rash from breastfeeding when their mother has thrush.

The symptoms of this include having a border of rash redness, lesions, or scales where the diaper rash is present, small red spots on top of the red rash and rash in crevices like the buttocks and groin area. The only treatment that is safe and effective for babies is cream or ointment prescribed by a doctor.

Yeast infections that develops in the mouth, throat or on the tongue is referred to as Thrush. Thrush is marked by having white spots on the area infected along with redness. Adults will have a burning sensation associated with this infection. Adults who are on antibiotics are more likely to get this type of infection. This is because antibiotics attack good bacteria in your body that helps balance out yeast. When the good bacteria are gone, the bad bacterium takes over and produces yeast. Infants and babies are also susceptible to this infection but are not usually bothered by it unless it is left untreated.
