Support for Latinas in the U.S.


In the late 1980s, participants at a meeting of the U.S. National Coalition against Sexual Assault declared the month of April to be "Sexual Assault Awareness Month." During this month, clinics, centers and groups working in the field of sexual health collaborate on educational campaigns promoting the prevention of sexual violence.

Nonetheless, many rape crisis centers Rape crisis centers evolved in order to help victims of rape, sexual abuse, and other forms of sexual violence. Also referred to as Sexual Assault Centers, RCCs serve a number of purposes.  are unable to offer appropriate services in Spanish for Latina victims. The group Arte Sana (Art Heals) in Austin, Texas, recently celebrated its fourth year of providing training and defense of Spanish-speaking victims' rights victims' rights, rights of victims to have a role in the prosecution of the perpetrators of crimes against them. Nearly all U.S. states have enacted some victims' rights legislation. . In commemoration of "Sexual Assault Awareness Month," Arte Sana sent out this e-mail message to combat some of the myths about sexual violence that blame the victim.

Women do not "ask" to be raped!

There is no type of perfume or clothing that "encourages" rapists.

Girls aren't flirts; they are naturally charming.

Sexually active women deserve respect, not contempt.

The "devil" didn't make the rapist commit the crime.

Being drunk is no excuse for rape.

Rapists are not mentally ill; they are shameless shame·less

The victim is NEVER guilty!
