Superior resolution, slim profile and elegant design distinguish RDI Computer Corp.'s new 16-inch flat-panel display.CARLSBAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 1997-- PowerScreen 16 offers superior readability for space-constrained and environmentally sensitive applications RDI RDI - Receiver Data Interface Computer Corp. Tuesday announced the debut of PowerScreen 16, a lightweight, superior-performance monitor that utilizes the most advanced flat-panel display available: a 16-inch, 1280x1024 high-resolution LCD. At only three inches deep, the PowerScreen 16 provides a space- saving alternative to a 20- or 21-inch CRT (1) (C RunTime) See runtime library. (2) (Cathode Ray Tube) A vacuum tube used as a display screen in a computer monitor or TV. The viewing end of the tube is coated with phosphors, which emit light when struck by electrons. and all the ergonomic advantages of flat-panel technology. Principal applications for RDI's latest display include government and military missions in the field, aboard ships and aircraft and on the trading-room floor. PowerScreen 16 is also designed for space-constrained areas such as medical diagnostics, cleanrooms and other controlled industrial environments, plus on-the-road software demonstration and trade-show displays. A high-durability capacitive touch screen is available as an option for the PowerScreen 16. Registering the lightest touch for accurate response, its all-glass construction resists contaminants and scratching for the most demanding environments. ``RDI's PowerScreen 16 is ideal for space-constrained applications -- such as submarines, humvees or on the trading-room floor -- with restrictive space and power requirements,'' said David Hartley, director of marketing, RDI. ``It also offers superior readability and is compatible with virtually any platform.'' System Performance and Specifications -- Advanced display. The PowerScreen 16's total viewing area is 12.55 by 10.04 inches, or 16.1 inches on the diagonal, with a contrast ratio of 100:1 and .25mm dot pitch for excellent image clarity. The 1280x1024 active matrix LCD provides brightness levels of 150 nits and a palette of 262,000 colors, with 300 nits available as an option. Digital display adjustments centrally located below the display include brightness control, contrast control and menu control. -- Small dimensions. The PowerScreen 16 requires considerably less room than a CRT with a comparably sized display. Just three inches deep, the monitor and stand measure 19 inches in height and 16.7 inches in width. At 19 pounds, the PowerScreen is roughly one-third the weight of a workstation monitor, which can reduce transport costs associated with CRTs. -- Standard interfaces. The PowerScreen 16 supports PCs, workstations and X-terminals, replacing any CRT monitor without special hardware and software modifications. It is fully compatible with all major display standards, including SXGA (Super XGA) A screen resolution of 1280x1024 pixels. SXGA is commonly used on standard monitors, but provides a 1.25:1 aspect ratio, compared to the more common 1.33:1 (4:3) ratio. SXGA+ has a 1400x1050 resolution, which is an exact 1.33:1 ratio. See PC display modes. , XGA, SVGA (Super VGA) A screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. Third-party vendors extended IBM's VGA display standard and were the first to use the term. SVGA has also referred to 1,024x768 resolutions. See PC display modes. and VGA. -- Lower power consumption. The PowerScreen typically requires 55W of power (10W in standby mode), roughly half the requirements of a standard CRT. In addition, the VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association, Milpitas, CA, www.vesa.org) A membership organization founded in 1989 that sets interface standards for the PC, workstation and computing environments. Note the following VESA standards following this entry. Display Management Signaling (DPMS See VESA DPMS. (hardware) DPMS - Display Power Management Signaling. ) backlight control reduces power consumption, extending the life of the display. Single-unit pricing is $9,950 for the standard configuration and $10,950 with the touch-screen option. PowerScreen 16 is backed by a one-year warranty.
