Sunny Capital Chooses NMS Communications for First Voice over Broadband Product Deployment at China's Leshan Telecom.

NMS' Proven Platform, ATM Interfaces, Echo Cancellation, and Consulting Services Bring New Capabilities to China Telecom Subsidiary

NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), the leading supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, worked with network equipment provider Beijing Sunny Capital Communications to deploy the first voice over broadband solution at Leshan Telecom, a China Telecom subsidiary. Sunny Capital's SCX-1000 voice over broadband (VoBB) product is based on NMS platforms and technologies, specifically the Convergence Generation(TM) (CG) 6100C high-density digital trunk interface, ATM interfaces, echo cancellation, and Signaling System 7 interfaces to the public switched telephone network. Sunny Capital Communications also engaged NMS to provide planning, design, and implementation expertise that significantly expedited the field trial.

Sunny Capital Communications' SCX-1000 VoBB product is in trial at the Sichuan-based carrier to provide voice over Digital Subscriber Line (VoDSL) service. VoDSL uses the same connection to deliver both voice and data services, which particularly benefits the proliferation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in China and Korea looking to reduce network costs by combining broadband lines for both telephony and data services. The SME market (up to 24 lines) is the "sweet spot" in the VoDSL target market since users at the lower end are unlikely to require the multiple lines offered by VoDSL while the higher end have access to much higher bandwidth services at competitive prices.

According to a report published earlier this year by telecom market analyst firm RHK, China and other nations in the Asia Pacific region now lead the world in DSL subscriber growth and network build-out, with Asia Pacific now accounting for approximately 44 percent of the world's DSL subscribers. RHK expects the growth trend to continue as China, Japan, South Korea, and other countries upgrade their telecom infrastructures.
