Sunhayato Selects Freescale's Motor Driver IC for 2-Channel Motor Driver Module.

Combination of Freescale's H-bridge Power IC, 8-Bit Microcontroller and 3-Axis Acceleration Sensor Provides Innovative Mechatronics (MECHAnics elecTRONICS) The combination of mechanical and electronic systems. Embracing robotics, industrial control systems and human interfaces in numerous disciplines, mechatronics is a major step beyond "electromechanical," in which only electricity is required.  Control Solution

TOKYO -- Freescale Semiconductor Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. is an American semiconductor manufacturer. It was created by the divestiture of the Semiconductor Products Sector of Motorola in 2004. Freescale focuses their integrated circuit products on the automotive, embedded and communications markets.  (NYSE NYSE

17531 motor driver integrated circuit (IC) for Sunhayato's new MM-531 2-channel motor driver module.

Sunhayato's MM-531 combines Freescale's MPC17531 motor driver IC with peripherals onto a 16-pin DIP form-factor board with press-fitted pins. An ideal solution for driving compact DC and stepping motors, the MM-531 incorporates two channels of H-bridge circuits with 0.7-A capacitance into an ultra-compact footprint. Using Freescale's low-power-dissipation MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) The most popular and widely used type of field effect transistor (see FET). MOSFETs are either NMOS (n-channel) or PMOS (p-channel) transistors, which are fabricated as individually packaged  driver circuit, the MM-531 enables driving motors with lower power dissipation and higher efficiency than conventional bipolar motor driver ICs. In particular, the MM-531 is very useful in driving 3V to 6V low-voltage motors to minimize power consumption and maximize torque.

) based motor control by manufacturing a simple circuit optimized for the motor and combining it with either Sunhayato's CT-298 MCU evaluation card featuring a Freescale 8-bit MCU or the SF9S08C DIP package MCU, which stores the required monitor program. By combining the manufactured circuit with Sunhayato's MM-2860 sensor module using Freescale's MMA (Microcomputer Managers Association, Inc.) "Freescale's MPC17531 is very suitable for implementation in a small-form-factor module with a 16-pin DIP size due to its small QFN QFN Quad Flat No-Lead

package, which requires virtually no external components," said Toshiya Honjo, division director of Sunhayato's Research and Development Division. "Our MM-531 ultra-compact motor driver module is very efficient and requires no heat sink, so it is easy-to-evaluate and very useful for customers in the mechatronics research and development arena."

The MPC17531 device is a highly efficient 2-channel H-bridge power IC that uses Freescale's SMARTMOS[TM] power technology to enable high current output within a small form factor. The MPC17531 is suitable for bipolar stepping and brush motors used in such consumer electronics products as cameras and hard disk drives.

Sunhayato's new motor driver module is available now at Tsukumo Robot Kingdom in Akihabara (a popular electronics shopping district in Tokyo), as well as other electronics stores throughout Japan. The driver module is offered with the mini-evaluation card and acceleration sensor module already available in the market.

About SMARTMOS[TM] technology

SMARTMOS[TM] is a Bi-CMOS process integrating high-precision analog circuitry, power device, and logic. The SMARTMOS process integrates voltage regulation, power MOSFETs, input signal processing, transient voltage protection, system diagnosis, and other control functions that require a lot of components into a single chip, enabling a highly integrated IC that reduces the total system cost for embedded systems.
