Sunbeam announces five new international distribution agreements.

:SOC) announced the completion of five additional international distribution/marketing agreements signed during the second quarter of 1997. Four of the agreements announced today provide the Company with expanded access Expanded access refers to the inclusion of patients in a clinical trial for a new therapeutic treatment or chemical entity, where those patients would not satisfy the enrolment criteria for the scientific study in progress.  to the United Kingdom and Europe for Sunbeam gas grills and to Paraguay and Brazil for Oster branded hair clippers. Additionally, Sunbeam and Promesa - the leading corn meal producer in Venezuela - have entered into a joint marketing program for the Company's new Oster Arepamaker.

This brings the total number of new international agreements signed to 21 since Mr. Dunlap became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in July 1996. Mr. Dunlap stated, "Our strategy is to triple the Company's international sales, to approximately $600 million by 1999, through the successful geographic expansion of our products in three key target markets, (1) Latin & South America South America, fourth largest continent (1991 est. pop. 299,150,000), c.6,880,000 sq mi (17,819,000 sq km), the southern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , (2) Asia and (3) Europe". Mr. Dunlap added, "We expect geographic expansion through new distributors will contribute up to 45% of our three year international growth goal and the 21 agreements already completed will contribute nearly 25% toward that same goal."

Dixon Thayer, Vice President of International Operations Internal Operations (I.O., IO or I/O) is a fictional American Intelligence Agency in Wildstorm comics. It was originally called International Operations. The agreements have encompassed both distribution of current products and licensing of the Company's brands, primarily Oster, to products like refrigerators, gas stoves and microwave ovens.
