SunSoft delivers new integrated development environment for Ada; SunSoft WorkShop for Ada combines power of Ada multithreading with award-winning development product suite -- suite featured in recent I-CASE Federal contract win.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1994--SunSoft Inc. Wednesday announced the availability of SunSoft WorkShop for Ada, the first integrated product suite for Ada software development.

SunSoft Workshop is the company's award-winning toolset for developing advanced, performance-critical applications on UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
platforms and incorporates tools for individual and teams of developers to speed application development, increase software quality and boost application performance.

The availability of SunSoft WorkShop for Ada will enable developers to easily incorporate the power of Solaris multiprocessing multiprocessing

The new Ada version is featured in the recent Federal contract awarded to Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. Features include support for rapid prototyping, modeling the data and processing and drawing logic diagrams.

"SunSoft's Ada products were Logicon's choice to include in the Ada portion of the I-CASE program," said Tom Morrissey Tom Morrissey (born July 1956) is an Irish Progressive Democrats politician and former member of Seanad Éireann. He was nominated as a senator by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern in 2002. , vice president of I-CASE systems at Logicon Inc., the prime contractor on the I-CASE award. "The combination of SunSoft's proven compiler technology and the company's investment in leading-edge product development were critical factors in our decision to work with Sun."

With the integration of SunSoft's SPARCworks/iMPact multithreaded multithreaded - multithreading  development tools, SunSoft WorkShop for Ada combines the multithreading capabilities inherent in the Ada language with the productivity improvements of a fully integrated toolset. SPARCworks/iMPact Ada harnesses the power of MP systems based on the SPARC (Scalable Performance ARChitecture) A family of RISC CPUs from Sun that runs mostly under Sun's Solaris, but also under Linux and BSD operating systems. After development began in the mid-1980s by David Patterson of the University of California at Berkeley and Bill  architecture by automatically assigning each Ada task to a Solaris thread. This enables Ada tasks to execute concurrently, thereby delivering significant application performance improvements. Additionally, SunSoft WorkShop for Ada eliminates the need for specialized Ada runtimes and produces portable, standard Ada code.

"Ada developers need a high-performance set of tools for their mission-critical applications," said Jon Kannegaard, vice president and general manager of developer products at SunSoft. "SunSoft WorkShop for Ada makes it possible for Ada developers to maximize the multitasking multitasking

performance speed of their applications while boosting their productivity."

About SunSoft WorkShop for Ada

SunSoft WorkShop for Ada features SPARCworks/iMPact Ada multithreaded development tools for efficient development of multiprocessing and multithreaded applications. SunSoft WorkShop for Ada also features SPARCompiler Ada and includes the SPARCompiler C language system to ease multi-language development in Ada and C. SPARCworks/TeamWare code management tools are also included in the toolsuite, for easy and fast version control, release integration and management and project build.

-- SPARCworks/Ada Toolset - provides development tools that speed and simplify common developer tasks. AdaVision provides graphical Ada library management and browsing that helps developers quickly navigate their applications. AdaDebug supports complete debugging (programming) debugging - The process of attempting to determine the cause of the symptoms of malfunctions in a program or other system. These symptoms may be detected during testing or use by real users.  of Ada programs, including tasking, with an easy-to-use graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

-- SPARCworks/iMPact Ada - unleashes the power of MP. With SPARCworks/iMPact Ada, developers can create applications that use true concurrent Ada tasking based on Solaris threads to gain dramatic performance improvements on SPARC MP systems.

-- SPARCompiler, Ada -- SPARCompiler Ada is the leading high-performance, MIL-STD-1815A validated Ada compiler which supports advanced language features and produces highly optimized to Ada code.

-- SPARCworks/TeamWare -- speeds critical code management tasks. Source code can be managed in a common fashion no matter what language is used, automating and easing software version control, release integration, release management, and project build.
