Designed specifically for space-constrained environments, Munchkin's daytimer-sized logic unit fits even the stingiest space requirement of any point-of-service location, including customer service stations in the retail, financial, banking and insurance industries.

The Munchkin X-Station (model CXLM 3530) was announced today by SunRiver Data Systems SunRiver Data Systems was a division of SunRiver Corporation, a private company founded in 1986 in Jackson, Mississippi by four electrical engineers (Ronnie Hughes, Bill Long, Kester Rice, and Gerald Youngblood), all former employees of Diversified Technology, Inc. , Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of All-Quotes, Inc. The Munchkin X-Station is affordably priced; depending upon the memory, keyboard and monitor configuration, suggested list price for the total system starts at $1,625. When the logic unit is purchased without monitor or keyboard, prices begin at $1,195.

"Munchkin's ease-of-use and functionality make it ideal for companies needing to empower their associates with information technology at the right cost," said SunRiver Data Systems Product Manager Steve Crawford. "The Munchkin X-Station achieves new levels of price/performance, while retaining the rich features shared by the full line of SunRiver X-Station products."

When attached to a local host, Munchkin operates as a client on a network and offers desktop access to computer applications, graphics and data. Munchkin delivers ease-of-use through its support of the Motif Window Manager In computing, the Motif Window Manager (MWM) is an X window manager based on the Motif toolkit.

Munchkin offers a range of flexible logic unit mounting options (including vertical deskside mounting) so that it can be conveniently located out of the way of customer transactions. The product's logic unit weighs only 5 lbs. and measures just 1.75" high x 9.75" wide x 9.25" deep.

In addition, future releases of the Munchkin X-Station will incorporate features already available in SunRiver's CXLE 3531 X-Station which are ideal for call center solutions. Features will include a built-in audio card which will allow the playback of synchronized video with audio, so Munchkin can be used for informational and educational purposes, and as a kiosk for delivering consumer product/service information.

Available in Three Configurations

The Munchkin CXLM 3530 X-Station is available in three configurations. The standard configuration contains the i960CA, 25 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  processor with 1 MB VRAM See video RAM.

. Other options include the Munchkin CXLM 3530+, which contains the i960CA, with either a 25 MHz or 33 MHz processor, both with 2 MB VRAM. Each model can be equipped with one of five different sizes (9", 14", 15", 17" or 20") EnergyStar Compliant color monitors or a 9" grey scale monitor; from 4 to 32 MB of memory; and a variety of keyboards, including US and international styles.

As another cost-saving feature, Munchkin's "granular memory" design permits future memory expansions in various increments (up to the maximum 32 MB) without having to discard costly existing SIMMs. Munchkin also supports 10BaseT (standard) and thin (optional) Ethernet connections.

To enhance compatibility, Munchkin supports a complete implementation of both the Motif Window Manager and the OPEN LOOK Virtual Window Manager as local clients. Full-featured VT-220/VT-320 and TN3270/X terminal emulators are also available as local clients.

Munchkin is supported with SunRiver's xEasy software, which is also used with the existing SunRiver CXLE 3531, 3533 and 3534 X-Station models. The software provides terminal emulation Using software in a desktop machine to make it perform like a hardware terminal. Remote administration enhancements allow the administrator to easily modify, reset or monitor parameters in the X-Station. In addition, the software provides for several user-selectable customization options.

"Our xEasy software is modular, enabling the administrator to select and download specific features to the terminal," said Crawford. "Previously, we pre-selected which features would be downloaded. Our new modular approach puts more control in the hands of the administrator to ensure users get the correct set of features they need."

Orders are now being accepted for the Munchkin CXLM 3530 X-Station, which is available through SunRiver and its distribution channels. It is also available through AT&T Global Information Solutions (AT&T GIS) as CXLM 3530 X-Station.
