Journalists from the South Florida-based Sun-Sentinel were named Pulitzer Prize Pulitzer Prize

Investigative Editor Fred Schulte Fred William Schulte (January 13, 1901 - May 20, 1983) was a center fielder in Major League Baseball who played for the St. Louis Browns, (1927-1932), Washington Senators (1933-1935) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1936-1937). Schulte batted and threw right handed.  and writer Jenni Bergal were named finalists in the investigative reporting category for their series Cosmetic Surgery cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery for cosmetic purposes, such as the improvement of the appearance of the face by removing wrinkles or reshaping the nose. : the Hidden Dangers.

Sun-Sentinel Photographer Mike Stocker was named a finalist in the spot news photography category for his images showing the impact of Hurricane Mitch Hurricane Mitch was one of the deadliest and most powerful hurricanes on record in the Atlantic basin, with maximum sustained winds of 180 mph (290 km/h). The storm was the thirteenth tropical storm, ninth hurricane, and third major hurricane of the 1998 Atlantic  on the people of Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatamala.

Monday's announcement marks the third time Schulte, a 21-year veteran of the Sun-Sentinel, has been named a Pulitzer Prize finalist and the second time Bergal has been named a finalist.

Journalists from the Sun-Sentinel have been named Pulitzer finalists four times in the past four years.
