Summertime blues.

Paris may shut down for the month of August, but L.A. stays busy all the time. The traditional notion of a summer vacation seems quaint when viewed from the perspective of today's busy office life. So the Business Journal asks:

How much time did you take for vacation this summer?

I didn't take any vacation this summer. It's been years since I've taken any vacation. I take a day off here and there. I'm a lawyer so the door never seems to stop opening--it's the nature of the job and the nature of me. I'm not a vacation taker.

I took a week off and went to Quebec in Canada. I had a great time. I actually went because I had a wedding to attend and I thought I might as well combine it with my vacation. I actually get to take four weeks off but I chose to take only one. I'm taking two weeks off during Christmas so I wanted to save up for that. I think I will go to London then.

My vacation was about nine or ten days. It was primo time in Kapalua Bay on Maui. I want to go back. I probably should have taken a full two weeks. I'm a certified specialist in estate planning trust and probate law. That keeps vacations short.

So far I've taken days, not weeks, this summer. Two days at most. I've gone on weekend trips nearby. Beaches down south and such. I have a week vacation planned for the fall--a cruise in the Caribbean. I'm saving vacation days for a trip to Italy next year.

It's hard to go away for a week. I have six kids and I have a big job. I usually take maybe a four-day weekend. 1 took a four-day weekend at the start of June to celebrate my 25th and 26th wedding anniversary--I owed my wife for the 25th. I took two weeks. That was good for me. I went to the Colorado River. We wake-boarded and water-skied and did a midnight canoe trip. Just above Lake Havasu there's that really cool natural preserve. On a full moon we canoed from midnight to 7 a.m. The moon was big and there were thunderstorms thunderstorms
