Sumitomo Corp. Launches Wind Power Generation Project in Kashima.


Tokyo, Japan, Oct 18, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Sumitomo Corporation Sumitomo Corporation (住友商事, Sumitomo Shōji) TYO: 8053 is a highly built worldwide trading company (Sogo shosha), and is a diversified corporation based in Tokyo, Japan. It is a member company of the Sumitomo Group.  will engage in a wind power generation project in Kashima, Ibaraki This article is about the city in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. The project will construct 10 turbines, each with a power generation capacity of 2,000kW, the largest in Japan, will be built in the city's industrial complex. The entire electricity generated by the turbines, which will amount to 42 million kW annually, will be sold to Tokyo Electric Power.

Sumitomo signed a full turnkey contract with Kashima Corporation, in which Kashima will procure, install and test wind turbines, which are supplied by Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa through its Japan distributor Toshiba Plant Systems.

Sumitomo's wholly-owned subsidiary, Summit Wind Power Kashima, started construction of the power plant in October, with commercial operation slated to begin in February 2007.
