The project will construct 10 turbines, each with a power generation capacity of 2,000kW, the largest in Japan, will be built in the city's industrial complex. Sumitomo signed a full turnkey contract with Kashima Corporation, in which Kashima will procure, install and test wind turbines, which are supplied by Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa through its Japan distributor Toshiba Plant Systems. Sumitomo's wholly-owned subsidiary, Summit Wind Power Kashima, started construction of the power plant in October, with commercial operation slated to begin in February 2007.
