Sullivan keeps things steady for long haul at Studley. In this world of constant change, Mark Sullivan holds steady: He s worked at Studley since signing on as a college intern in 1985 and plans to stay at the real estate company until he's retired. As the new vice president and regional manager for Southern California, he wants to expand geographically, possibly to San Diego and the Inland Empire, consolidate business into fewer, larger, more profitable transactions, and grow Studley's four service lines: investment banking, national retail, industrial services and investment services. "My role with the firm is in developing a strategy for the growth of our region," Sullivan said. In his younger years, Sullivan wanted to go into advertising. "From watching 'Bewitched' as a kid, and seeing Darrin Stephens come home and work on ad slogans, I thought it was a good idea," Sullivan said. "I interned with a number of advertising agencies, but it just didn't seem as exciting or entrepreneurial as I had imagined." While attending California State University, Northridge, Sullivan answered an advertisement for a college intern for Studley's office in the San Fernando Valley. He was accepted. Sullivan moved up the ranks, held every position in the company's organizational hierarchy, and became a mid-senior level commercial real estate broker. By 1993 he became vice president, while earning his MBA at the University of Southern California. "This is the only job I've ever had; that's got to be rare today," he said. In his spare time, he's an amateur race car driver. He has been active in the sport for 18 months, and has raced at the Infineon Raceway north of San Francisco. He also surfs weekly, a favorite spot being the Ventura/LA County line. Sullivan lives in Santa Monica with his wife Gayle, who is pregnant, and their 1-year-old son Jack. |
