Z-6945 silane is a tetrasulfidosilane coupling agent on carbon black for silica filled rubber. Z-6945 silane is a mixture of polysulfidosilane species with an average sulfur chain length of 3.75 on an HAF carbon black, N330 type carrier. It is a 50% silane actives product in an easy to handle solid form, according to the company. Z-6945 silane can be incorporated in-situ in a black rubber formulation. The solid silane is typically added with the rubber, oil and silica in the first mix. The ethoxysilyl groups then react to the surface of the inorganic material during this mix. It is typical to drive the temperature of the mixture to over 150[degrees]C to get adequate reaction of the silane to the filler. The sulfur portion of the silane will then participate in the sulfur vulcanization of the rubber to couple the filler to the organic matrix. This sulfur functional silane is reactive in sulfur-vulcanized rubber, and its solid form facilitates easy handling and addition to the mixing system, according to the company.
