Successful conference for collegiate chapters. (Collegiate Chapters).

To say the National Conference in Cincinnati was a smashing success for collegiate chapters would be a sizeable understatement. Audience attendance at sessions was exceptional, and the quality of the sessions was exemplary. I want to thank the following Collegiate Chapters for their applications for the Chapter of the Year Award:

* Bowling Green State University Bowling Green State University, at Bowling Green, Ohio; coeducational; chartered 1910 as a normal school, opened 1914. It became a college in 1929, a university in 1935.

* West Chester University

* SUNY Potsdam

* Wichita State University Wichita State University (WSU) is an American state-supported university located in the city of Wichita, Kansas. WSU is one of six state universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents. The current President is Dr. Donald Beggs.  (WSU)

* University of Michigan (body, education) University of Michigan - A large cosmopolitan university in the Midwest USA. Over 50000 students are enrolled at the University of Michigan's three campuses. The students come from 50 states and over 100 foreign countries.

It was a pleasure to notify Ruth Burrow, president of WSU's Collegiate Chapter, that WSU would be recipient of the 2002 award. Other officers of The chapter are Crystal Zimmerman, vice president, and Suzanne Morton, secretary/treasurer. The faculty advisor is Sylvia Coats, NCTM.

Several topics were presented for discussion at the National Student Advisory Council meeting on Sunday morning. For those of you unable to attend, please take a moment to e-mail me at mfhilley@mail.utexas.edu with your responses to the following:

1. How do you feel about a Collegiate Chapter e-mail ListServ instead of a Collegiate Chapter column in AMT See vPro. ?

2. Would you be interested in proposing a presentation from your collegiate chapter for next year's MTNA National Conference in Salt Lake City?

3. A collegiate chapter web page template has been submitted to the national office. This would be the format used for each collegiate chapter to have its own individual link to the national home page. If your chapter would like to join in the web page "experiment," please contact me via e-mail.

I want to encourage all students who were unable to attend the Cincinnati conference to join us next year in Salt Lake City. The National Student Advisory Council is your chance to have a voice in the future of MTNA Collegiate Chapters. All students in attendance at the conference are invited to be a part of the National Student Advisory Council.
