Malcolm was treated at a local hospital for relatively minor cuts and released. Ramnauth, however, underwent surgery and was hospitalized 19 days for the multiple stab wounds he received. In June of this year he was awarded a Carnegie Medal, given by the Carnegie Hero Fund The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, also known as Carnegie Hero Fund, was established to recognize persons who perform extraordinary acts of heroism in civilian life in the United States and Canada, and to provide financial assistance for those disabled and the dependents of  Commission to those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others.
