Study: average residents younger, sicker.

Researchers have found that Ohio nursing home residents are on average younger today than they were ten years earlier; the proportion of nursing home residents under age 65 has doubled from 7 to 14%, and the average age has dropped from 83 to 79. At the same time, Ohio nursing home residents are more disabled than they were ten years ago. Nevertheless, the number of residents in nursing homes has dropped by 9.2% from 1994 to 2004.
