Studies Confirm that Arch Chemicals' Vantocil(TM) Product Destroys Dangerous Pet Viruses.

MANCHESTER, England -- Arch Chemicals, Inc. announced today that research has demonstrated that its Vantocil(TM) product, which has long been used as an ingredient in human hygiene disinfectant products in Europe and other global regions, is also highly effective in controlling the pet-associated viruses, Canine parvovirus and Feline coronavirus coronavirus /co·ro·na·vi·rus/ (ko-ro´nah-vi?rus) any virus belonging to the family Coronaviridae.

The Merck Veterinary Manual is available as a reference manual or as an online resource for veterinarians, veterinary students, and others involved in  reports that mortality associated with CPV infection is 16-35 percent.

"This is an exciting step forward in our continuing development of the Vantocil(TM) antimicrobial since it is recognised that Canine parvovirus is very difficult to combat and is resistant to many disinfectants. Arch scientists are initiating further efficacy tests to evaluate the use of the Vantocil(TM) product against a wider range of animal-related pathogens," said Dr Terry Yeates, Business Manager, Arch(TM) Biocides' Health & Hygiene business.

Additional research also demonstrated that Vantocil(TM) was effective in controlling Feline coronavirus (FCoV). Infections with FCoV are very prevalent in cats throughout the world, but in most cases the virus will cause no clinical signs or only mild, transient disease such as self-limiting diarrhea. In rare cases, this viral infection can result in the development of Feline infectious peritonitis Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a fatal, incurable disease that affects cats. It is caused by Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus (FIPV), which is a mutation of Feline Enteric Coronavirus (FECV/FeCoV). Experts do not always agree on the specifics of FIP. , which the Merck Veterinary Manual reports is almost always fatal.

Vantocil(TM) is based on the active ingredient poly (hexamethylenebiguanide) hydrochloride hydrochloride /hy·dro·chlo·ride/ (-klor´id) a salt of hydrochloric acid.
