Studies Confirm that Arch Chemicals' Vantocil(TM) Product Destroys Dangerous Pet Viruses.

MANCHESTER, England -- Arch Chemicals, Inc. announced today that research has demonstrated that its Vantocil(TM) product, which has long been used as an ingredient in human hygiene disinfectant products in Europe and other global regions, is also highly effective in controlling the pet-associated viruses, Canine parvovirus and Feline coronavirus.

Research work performed by BluScientific Test Data at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland showed that Vantocil(TM) was effective within five minutes in controlling Canine parvovirus (CPV). Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious and serious disease caused by a virus that attacks the gastrointestinal tract of puppies and dogs, with symptoms including loss of appetite, fever, vomiting and severe diarrhea. If left untreated it can be fatal. The Merck Veterinary Manual reports that mortality associated with CPV infection is 16-35 percent.

"This is an exciting step forward in our continuing development of the Vantocil(TM) antimicrobial since it is recognised that Canine parvovirus is very difficult to combat and is resistant to many disinfectants. Additional research also demonstrated that Vantocil(TM) was effective in controlling Feline coronavirus (FCoV). Infections with FCoV are very prevalent in cats throughout the world, but in most cases the virus will cause no clinical signs or only mild, transient disease such as self-limiting diarrhea. In rare cases, this viral infection can result in the development of Feline infectious peritonitis, which the Merck Veterinary Manual reports is almost always fatal.

Vantocil(TM) is based on the active ingredient poly (hexamethylenebiguanide) hydrochloride (PHMB).
