IT WAS encouraging to have four new delegates attend the National Student Unit's (NSU NSU Nonspecific urethritis, see there ) two-day meeting last month in Wellington--Jacqui Bennetts from Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology The Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology (CPIT) is an institute of technology in Christchurch, New Zealand. A new vice-chair was elected, following the resignation of Ashton Stewart. Congratulations to Niki Swabey, a second year student at UNITEC Institute of Technology.

The meeting focused on developing and strengthening relationships within NSU and with other organisations and unions with similar goals, eg NSU chair Danny Morrison will attend the AGM of the Medical Students' Association later this year.

The annual meeting with the schools' heads of department (HODs) was positive. The HODs were willing to work with the NSU on national student issues. The NSU raised the possibility of having a national protocol on the quality of clinical placements and opportunities to resit resit

Representatives from both the New Zealand University Students' Association (NZUSA) and the Aotearoa Tertiary Students Association attended the meeting. It was agreed NZUSA and the NSU could work together on student debt issues.

The NSU plans to invite Minister of Health Annette King and Minister of Education Steve Maharey to its June meeting, with the aim of discussing student issues before the election.

Delegates are still needed to fulfill our vision to be the leading voice for all nursing students in New Zealand. There are vacancies at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology A public NZ Tertiary Education Institution.
