Student art exhibited.Byline: Nancy Sheehan COLUMN: QUICK TAKES WHAT'S UP The Prints and Potter Gallery, 142 Highland St., will host an exhibition of artwork by talented young artists from the Worcester Public Schools. The public is invited to an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. tonight, and the exhibition continues through May 28. About 30 works of art are by students from Doherty High, Burncoat High, South High, North High, Claremont Academy and University Park Campus. Lady in a Hat, pictured, was done by Andrea Kisiel, an 11th grader from South High School. The work is gleaned by the arts liaison of the Worcester Public Schools, Kathleen Ivanowski. "She coordinates efforts with art teachers from each school and we all work together to find a time toward the end of the school year to highlight the accomplishments of some of the students," Prints and the Potter owner, Norman Ringdahl, said. The art teachers from each school select the pieces that are to be displayed. "The intent is to foster a positive feeling for young artists by displaying their work in a professional gallery environment," Ringdahl said. "The response has always been great. The students, teachers and parents love seeing the artwork being given some limelight. I can remember how gratifying it was for me to have my work recognized at an early age." ART: PHOTO |
