Structure and smiles: start a summer reading club.Summer is the perfect time for children to catch up on their reading. These ideas for groups offer a little structure to the process, but the most important thing of all is to make it fun for them. Get ideas from your children on how they would best enjoy the experience. Family Reading Circle: Parents and family members, why not introduce a book that you loved as a child? Either read the book together, especially if younger children are involved, or gather once the book is read and create a little discussion group with your children. Have them talk about the setting, the characters and how they relate to them. Talk about your fond memories and find out what made an impression on your child. Have them create a drawing or painting based on their favorite part of the story. Friends Reading Circle: Help your child select a small group of friends. See if they can come up with a few books that they would like to look at over the summer. They could pick a theme, for example: scary scar·y adj. scar·i·er, scar·i·est 1. Causing fright or alarm. 2.
