Structural challenge.Back in 2000 we took a look at Structurae at www.structurae.de. This is Nicholas Janberg's English, German, French database and gallery of international structures. Back then we thought the coverage was a bit mixed with some glaring glar·ing adj. 1. Shining intensely and blindingly: the glaring noonday sun. 2. Tastelessly showy or bright; garish. 3. omissions such as Tony Hunt, one of Britain's great engineers. That gap has been filled although not very satisfactorily. It is true that the Millau Viaduct The Millau Viaduct (French: le Viaduc de Millau) is a large cable-stayed road-bridge that spans the valley of the River Tarn near Millau in southern France. is there but, having carelessly care·less adj. 1. Taking insufficient care; negligent: a careless housekeeper; careless proofreading. 2. clicked out of it, it took me half an hour to find it again--via another site--the German side of www.archinform.net. Quite a lot of photos are not yet installed and descriptions are either vestigial ves·tig·i·al adj. Occurring or persisting as a rudimentary or degenerate structure. or nonexistent non·ex·is·tence n. 1. The condition of not existing. 2. Something that does not exist. non which makes the absence of visual material doubly confusing. So although it has enlarged vastly since 2000, we can only repeat our hope that what is basically an excellent site will grow in size and scope. And become a bit more informative. And faster. And get more pictures. Or maybe it could call a temporary halt while the promoters decide what its function really is. Or at least catch up. |
