Stroh recognizes its top brewery

In an annual contest recognizing the most outstanding brewery in its six-plant network, The Stroh Brewery Co. recently announced that its Winston-Salem, NC, brewery has won the 1989 Plant of the Year award.

The contest is based on each brewery's performance in the areas of quality packaging and brewing, productivity, customer service, malt and beer loss, efficiency, safety, utilities, rejected beer, absenteeism, overtime and housekeeping. The six Stroh breweries accumulate points from monthly plant inspections throughout Stroh's fiscal year and the brewery gaining the most points is named the winner.

Winning this award marks the third time the Winston-Salem brewery has been honored, adding to its 1983 and 1985 awards.

The contest was developed in 1980 to provide incentive for all brewery employees to perform well on their jobs. "The contest has been an effective tool in stimulating all employees, elevating performance of all plants and, at the same time, the contest has given us an excellent opportunity to recognize the hard work and effort of our employees," explained James Avery, Stroh senior vice president of operations.

"We're proud of the workdone at the Winston-Salem plant and we salute them for winning the 1989 contest," Avery said.
