Stroh, G. Heileman continue with talks

According a recent quote in last week's New York Times, the Stroh Brewery Co. is still interested in acquiring assets of the G. Heileman Brewing Co.

"The Stroh Brewery Company would certainly like to be the acquirer of Heileman," George Kuehn, senior vice president and general counsel, Stroh, told Reuters.

A Heileman spokesman reported the company was skeptical whether Stroh could make a bid, accusing the Detroit-based brewer of weak management, an uncertain direction, and an eroding distributor network.

Kuehn refused to comment whether the two breweries were in fact in direct talks.
