StreamLogic announces OEM relationship with Apple Computer; high-performance PCI Ultra SCSI JackHammer to be included with all Apple 9650 WorkGroup Servers.

(Nasdaq:STLC), developers of the award-winning SledgeHammer-Pro family of high-performance, highly fault-tolerant RAID solutions, Monday announced that Apple Computer (Nasdaq:APPL) will be shipping StreamLogic's PCI Ultra SCSI JackHammer with all new Apple 9650 WorkGroup Servers.

StreamLogic also announced that its Hammer, SledgeHammer and SledgeHammer-Pro families -- including the industry-acclaimed fault- tolerant RAID 5 solution, the SledgeHammer-Pro FT -- are fully compatible with all the new Apple WorkGroup Servers.

The JackHammer's sophisticated bus mastering design allows the CPU to off-load drive-management tasks to the JackHammer, freeing the Apple WorkGroup Server to perform other tasks. Advanced features such as SCSI disconnect/reconnect, tagged command queuing and complete support for either synchronous or asynchronous I/O maximize the performance of today's sophisticated drives to increase productivity.

The JackHammer is run by StreamLogic's customized Apple SCSI Interface Module driver, optimized for maximum performance.

Included with the JackHammer is a software control panel that has easy-to-configure user interfaces to update the parameters or reprogram the JackHammer, and a significant trouble-shooting tool -- the ability to diagnose pinouts. This ease of use, combined with the ability to test the JackHammer, makes it an ideal solution for the server environment.

StreamLogic's PCI Ultra SCSI JackHammer is fully compatible with all SCSI-1, Fast SCSI-2, Fast & Wide SCSI-2 and Ultra SCSI storage devices. The PCI Ultra SCSI JackHammer's intelligent Direct Memory Access transfers data directly to memory. Tagged Command Queuing improves drive performance by enabling multiple I/O requests to be stored and sorted, and then executed together.

The flash ROM chip ensures future compatibility -- firmware is easily upgraded through software. The PCI Ultra SCSI JackHammer adds a high-performance Ultra SCSI-3 port to the Apple WorkGroup Server, while leaving the native SCSI port of the server fully functional. Up to 15 internal or external SCSI devices are supported per card.
