It controls the interaction between applications and users and lets programmers develop screen displays without  applications to its Continuous Processing Systems running the FTX (Fault Tolerant UNIX) Stratus Computer's version of Unix System V for its XA/R fault tolerant computer systems.  vendor to offer a CICS environment running on a native UNIX platform. The port of UniKix software to FTX-based Stratus Continuum Series and XA/R Series systems is scheduled for completion by UniKix Technologies in June 1995. UniKix Technologies will directly distribute UniKix licenses worldwide through joint marketing efforts with Stratus' direct and indirect sales channels.

By integrating UniKix with the FTX operating system, Stratus and UniKix Technologies provide IBM mainframe IBM mainframes, though perceived as synonymous with mainframe computers in general due to their marketshare, are now technically and specifically IBM's line of business computers that can all trace their design evolution to the IBM System/360.  user the option to distribute their host-resident CICS applications between mainframe and Stratus platforms, thereby reaping the benefits of a fault-tolerant, open systems environment.  and UniKix software offers the ideal solution for banking, insurance and other business critical applications.

The Stratus FTX operating system is a native implementation of the UNIX V.4 MP operating system that runs on the complete line of Stratus fault-tolerant platforms, including the recently announced Continuum Series. The Continuum Series, introduced in February 1995, provides up to three times the raw performance for the same or less cost than earlier XA/R Series models.

Stratus also announced today the port of CNT/Brixton Systems' SNA-to-UNIX connectivity software to its FTX operating system. The integration of UniKix software with Brixton will be used to provide CICS applications running on Stratus with connectivity to existing SNA (Systems Network Architecture) IBM's mainframe network standards introduced in 1974. Originally a centralized architecture with a host computer controlling many terminals, enhancements, such as APPN and APPC (LU 6.  networks. This allows transparent 3270 terminal access to mainframe CICS and UniKix applications.

"CICS applications running on FTX systems will open up many new market opportunities for us," said Joe D'Angelo, vice president of market development for Stratus. "We feel that the experience of UniKix Technologies, the market leader in CICS on UNIX, will be a key factor in the success of application migration for our customers."

According to John Noonan, president of UniKix Technologies, "Stratus multiprocessor UNIX-based fault-tolerant systems represent the type of scalable platform that major mainframe customers require. UniKix will allow Stratus customers to select from the large portfolio of existing CICS applications and easily migrate

them to open fault-tolerant systems."

UniKix Technologies is the market-leading CICS-on-UNIX TP software, available on all of today's leading UNIX system platforms.
