Stratus and CNT Announce Fault-Tolerance for SNA Access; CNT's Brixton SNA gateway will link open systems users with legacy applications on Stratus FTX.

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 1996--Computer Network Technology Corp. (CNT (Carbon NanoTube) See nanotube. ) today announced that its Brixton PU2.1 SNA (Systems Network Architecture) IBM's mainframe network standards introduced in 1974. Originally a centralized architecture with a host computer controlling many terminals, enhancements, such as APPN and APPC (LU 6.  Server has been selected for SNA connectivity on Stratus fault-tolerant UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).

Stratus Computer Inc. (Marlboro, Mass.) will port CNT's Brixton PU2.1 SNA Server to its XA/R and Continuum systems, which are SVR Noun 1.  users through its distributed virtual server capability. Companies with intensive host access requirements will benefit from the tight SNA-TCP/IP integration of the Brixton product and the fault-tolerance of the Stratus FTX platform.

Stratus announced its decision to port CNT's Brixton PU5 SNA Server, a reverse gateway or "virtual mainframe," in March 1995. The Brixton PU5 combines the communications functions of an SNA host and front-end processor (FEP See front end processor. ) to provide 3270 users with comprehensive, feature-rich access to client/server applications. This allows customers with large SNA infrastructures to move to UNIX while protecting older computing investments.
