Strategic Technology Systems Inc. Awarded Crash Survivable Memory Unit Contract.

TRENTON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 1998--Strategic Technology Systems Inc. announced Thursday that it has been awarded a Phase 1 contract for its Crash Survivable Memory Unit (CSMU CSMU Crash-Survivable Memory Unit
CSMU Covariance Shaping Multiuser
CSMU Control, Status & Maintenance Unit
) as part of the Joint Advanced Health Usage and Monitoring System (JAHUMS JAHUMS Joint Advanced Health and Usage Monitoring System ) Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration program.

The contract was awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Noun 1. Naval Surface Warfare Center - the agency that provides scientific and engineering and technical support for all aspects of surface warfare
NSWC
. JAHUMS is a multi-service demonstration and evaluation of an advanced helicopter health and usage monitoring system to demonstrate potential to improve flight safety and reduce operational and support costs.

HUMS monitors the "health" of critical systems aboard an aircraft such as engines, transmissions, bearings, rotors, etc., analyzes the data in real time, stores the data in a crash survivable data recorder and, subsequently downloads the data for further analysis.

The data gathered aids maintenance personnel in determining premature deterioration of air vehicle system components. Once identified, failing components can be replaced, thus contributing to increased safety.

Data gathered can also eliminate or extend the scheduled replacement of known good components thereby reducing life cycle maintenance and spare parts costs.

The Strategic Technology's CSMU was developed as part of Strategic Technology's Maintenance Data Recorder contract with The Boeing Company for use on the AH-64D AH-64D Apache Attack Helicopter, D version, with Longbow radar improvements  Longbow longbow

Apache helicopter. The CSMU meets the internationally recognized crash requirements of EUROCAE EUROCAE European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment (regulatory agency for certifying aviation equipment in Europe)  ED-55 and ED-56A along with the full spectrum of military standard environmental and electromagnetic interference requirements.

It contains Non-Volatile Memory (NVM (Non-Volatile RAM) See NVRAM. ) capacity of 40 to 320 megabytes for the storage of maintenance data, safety data and digitized cockpit voice data. Once stored, data is retained for a minimum of 100 years. -0-
