Stratasys Makes ABSi Plastic Available to T-Class Platform Systems.

MINNEAPOLIS -- (Nasdaq:SSYS) Stratasys announced that it is making its ABSi plastic modeling material available for its T-Class platform rapid prototyping systems. This means ABSi is now compatible with all FDM (1) (Fused Deposition Modeling) See 3D printing.

(2) (Frequency Division Multiplexing) Transmitting multiple data signals simultaneously over a single wire by using multiple carriers, each having a unique center frequency.
Titan and FDM Vantage systems, except the Vantage i and the p-configuration of the Vantage X. ABSi is a translucent material that offers improvements over standard ABS, including finer feature detail and surface finish smoothness.

The material allows light transmission and is available in red, amber, or colorless. ABSi can be sterilized ster·il·ize

Any surgical procedure intended to end fertility permanently (see contraception). Such operations remove or interrupt the anatomical pathways through which the cells involved in fertilization travel (see reproductive system).
. It is compatible with the soluble support product, WaterWorks waterworks: see water supply. ,(TM) which dissolves model supports rather than require manual removal, which saves time and reduces labor cost. ABSi has been available previously on the FDM Maxum.

Because it is translucent, ABSi is beneficial for many material-handling applications, where material flow monitoring is important. In automotive applications, ABSi allows the modeling of tail lamps and other components that require light transmission.

"ABSi brings yet another unique material offering to the ABS material product line, allowing customers more opportunities to align their needs to the desired performance requirements," says product manager Patrick Robb. "Integrating true industrial thermoplastics is a unique industry capability available only via the Stratasys FDM process."

ABSi will work with any of the following layer-thickness settings: 0.010 in. (0.254 mm); 0.007 in. (0.178 mm); and 0.005 in. (0.127 mm).

T-Class system owners wishing to use ABSi will need to install the latest version of Stratasys Insight(TM) software and system controller software. Users with service contracts will automatically receive the software version; those without a service contract should contact their local sales representative. ABSi material is available at the same price as ABS.

Stratasys Inc., Minneapolis, makes rapid manufacturing and prototyping systems. Stratasys equipment is used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, defense, medical, and consumer products. In 2004, the company installed 36 percent of all systems sold worldwide, making it the unit market leader for the third consecutive year, according to Wohlers Report 2005. Stratasys patented the rapid prototyping process known as fused deposition modeling See 3D printing.  (FDM(R)).
