Storage Performance Council update.The Storage Performance Council, is a standards body whose goal is to define, promote and enforce vendor-neutral benchmarks to characterize the performance of storage subsystems. SPC-2 Public Review Draft Available The SPC-2 Technical Subcommittee has approved an initial public review draft of the SPC-2 benchmark specification. SPC-2 represents a segment of applications characterized by dominately large I/Os organized into one or more concurrent sequential patterns. Examples of those types of applications are: * Large file processing * Large database queries * Video on demand SPC-2 will consist of three sequential I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output. I/O - Input/Output workloads that correspond to the above three application types. Each workload will characterize a distinctive set of sequential I/O requirements at the application level. SPC-2 will require a series of tests for each of the three workloads. This version became the active version of the specification on January 10, 2004. SPC I/O Traces The SPC, in partnership with the University of Massachusetts The system includes UMass Amherst, UMass Boston, UMass Dartmouth (affiliated with Cape Cod Community College), UMass Lowell, and the UMass Medical School.
