Estate, a plantation once owned by the British Crown when Belize was British Honduras. The estate, which covers more land than either Boston or San Francisco, stretches for 20 miles on the Caribbean coast of Belize which is located in Central America. It includes sandy beaches, lagoons, pastures, farmland and a forest range whose hardwood trees are estimated to be worth $500 million.

Working with joint-venture partners, WSF plans oceanfront hotels, a variety of housing with whitewater views, office buildings, banks, and a shopping and amusement district that includes one or more casinos. Also planned are a deep-water shipping and fishing port and a yacht basin as well as industrial facilities to pack crops and seafood and mill hardwoods.

The first stage, a sawmill sawmill, installation or facility in which cut logs are sawed into standard-sized boards and timbers. The saws used in such an installation are generally of three types: the circular saw, which consists of a disk with teeth around its edge; the band saw, which  and wood-processing plant, is expected to begin operating later this year, processing 20,000 to 50,000 board feet of lumber a day. At this rate, it will require more than 75 years to harvest the estimated 300,000 "mature and merchantable Salable; of quality and type ordinarily acceptable among vendors and buyers.

An item is deemed merchantable if it is reasonably fit for the ordinary purposes for which such products are manufactured and sold. For example, soap is merchantable if it cleans.
" mahogany, cedar and other hardwood trees on the estate. Because even hardwoods grow to maturity in 60 years, this means that by continuously replanting, the estate will never exhaust its supply of trees.

Gerhard W. Walch, the company's chairman, president and chief executive officer, says that WSF is modeling itself after two highly successful operations in Hawaii, the Bishop Estate and Alexander & Baldwin. Both achieved wealth for their owners by allowing joint-venture partners to undertake land development aimed at attracting both tourists and permanent residents.

Walch believes that the economic situation in English-speaking Belize -- which is much closer to major U.S. markets than Hawaii -- duplicates that of Hawaii of 40 years ago.
