CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1996--Stingray Software, Inc. announced today Objective Grid 1.2.

Objective Grid 1.2 Performance Increases

In Objective Grid 1.2, Stingray engineers have researched the Objective Grid drawing speed and implemented an amazing 300 percent performance improvements.

"Objective Grid has quite simply made the difference between having a product to ship, and having vapor ware. After struggling with an Active-X based grid for nine months, we chose to replace it with Objective Grid, and in the ensuing month or so, we've more than made up the lost ground. The new features of Objective Grid 1.2, Tooltips on cells, OLE drag and drop, formatted edit fields, etc. have made an excellent product that much better," said John Thompson John Thompson is the name of:

    Objective Grid 1.2 Cell Types

The new cell types available in release 1.2 are:

-- Rich Text Format Rich Text Format - (RTF) An interchange format from Microsoft for exchange of documents between Word and other document preparation systems.  (RTF (Rich Text Format) A document format from Microsoft for encoding text and graphics. It was adapted from IBM's DCA format and supports ANSI, IBM PC and Macintosh character sets. ) Edit -- This control is based on the Win32 RTF edit common control and lets the user have multi-font/size text in a single Objective Grid cell. Find/Replace, print and print preview A software function that displays on screen the way a document will print on paper. Print preview eliminates wasting paper as corrections are made before the document is printed. In addition, network printers are not always close by and easily accessible.  of the cell are fully supported.

-- Masked Edit -- The new masked edit control allows the developer to restrict the data entry on a cell-by-cell level, which eases data entry for the end user. For example, phone numbers, dates and other values are much easier to enter in the masked edit control.

-- Colorwell -- The new colorwell cell type lets the developer place a Win95-style pop-up color selector in a grid cell. This provides a very easy way for the end user to select a color.

-- Progress Cell -- The new progress cell shows the user the status of an operation in a grid-cell. This can be extremely useful in real-time applications.

Objective Grid 1.2 OLE Drag-and-Drop Support

In addition to performance improvements and new cell types, the 1.2 update adds complete OLE drag-and-drop support. Users can either use the grid as a source or target for any OLE drag-and-drop operation. Objective Grid automatically scrolls during selection mode and multiple selection is supported.

"No other grid control can touch the level of customization and the ease of getting to it that is provided by Objective Grid. I pity OCX (OLE Control EXtension) A component software technology from Microsoft that enables a Windows program to add functionality by calling ready-made components. Generally called "OLE controls" or "OLE custom controls," they appear to the end user as just another part of  users," said Tom Baggett, TAPSCAN, Inc.

    Availability And Pricing

Objective Grid 1.2 is shipping now and costs $395, which includes full source code and 60 days of technical support. Objective Grid subscribers will receive the update at no additional cost. Subscriptions to Objective Grid are available for $195 and include three updates and one year of technical support.

All current versions of Microsoft Visual C++ (1.5x, 4.x) are supported.
