Still mining for recruits.


The Pentagon has been working with a private marketing firm since 2002 to build a database of about 30 million potential recruits. The database includes all college students and high school students from 16 to 18 years of age, as well as the students' Social Security numbers, grade point averages, emails and phone numbers.

Apparently, the Pentagon realized last year that they had forgotten to file a Privacy Act notice. No problem. They finally got around to it this June.

As usual, with this database and beyond, Uncle Sam Uncle Sam, name used to designate the U.S. government. The term arose in the War of 1812 and seems at first to have been used derisively by those opposed to the war. Possibly it was an expansion of the letters "U.S.  is not looking for Looking for
