There is still time to join the L.A. Leggers and begin training for the 2003 Los Angeles Marathon The Los Angeles Marathon is an annual marathon held in Los Angeles, California since 1986. It was inspired by the success of the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles. The race starts at about 8:15AM and runs through Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, the Crenshaw district, and . The L.A. Leggers is Southern California's premier marathon training Training for a marathon is a months or years long project for most recreational runners. This article is about training for recreational runners, i.e. runners who run for sport, physical fitness, or other reasons.  program and will begin its new season, Saturday, July 27 at 8:00 am. Starting date for the 30-some weeks of training is set to prepare runners for the 26.2-mile event, which is held the first Sunday in March. New member orientations will be held on July 13 and 20 at 8:30 am. The training is designed to help runners of all skill levels; it also is open to walkers.

L.A. Leggers is the only local program based on the run/walk principles taught by Jeff Galloway, Olympic athlete and author of the book Marathon!. The program consists of a group run (or walk) on Saturday mornings that increases from one mile to marathon length over the course of the training. Participants also train independently during the week.

L.A. Leggers is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting physical and mental health through running. Registration is limited. For reasons of safety, no inexperienced runner will be accepted after the first month. There is a non-refundable $50 fee (increasing to $55 after Sept. 29).
