 Education of Grand Rapids Grand Rapids, city (1990 pop. 189,126), seat of Kent co., SW central Mich., on the Grand River; inc. 1850. The second largest city in the state, it is a distribution, wholesale, and industrial center for an area that yields fruit, dairy products, farm produce, , MI, and Grand Valley State University of Allendale, MI, will host "Expanding Technology 6.0," a conference on the future of technology and business for the panel processing and woodworking industry.

The conference will be held June 20 and 21 at the Van Andel Museum Center in Grand Rapids. The program will include:

* Featured speaker: futurist Joyce Gioia of the Herman Group

* "Coming Ashore: Competing with the Import Invasion," Art Raymond, A.G. Raymond & Co.

* "No Weak Links: Using Data to Forge a Solid Production Chain," Klaus Gueniker, Virtual Systems Inc., and Tom Templeton, Building Blocks

* "Production Superhighway superhighway - information superhighway : Maximizing Manufacturing Efficiency," Eberhard Reyer, Schuler Associates

* "Lean On: Cutting the Fat without Losing Your Heart," George Koenigsaecker, Lean Investments LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol.

* "No Pain -- Lots to Gain: High-Velocity Manufacturing," Dan Nasato Siemens Dematic, and John Heurich, RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) A data collection technology that uses electronic tags for storing data.
