Steven finished in 2 minutes, 22.14 seconds, which converts to 2:08.05 over 200 yards, breaking her school record of 2:09.96. It was the highest individual finish ever for the Beavers, who finished 20th as a team, also the best in school history.

Steven trailed only Stanford's Tara Kirk Tara Kirk (born July 12, 1982 in Bremerton, Washington) is an Olympic swimmer in the United States. She set the world short course meters record in the 100 meter breaststroke, winning the event at the 2004 Women's NCAA Championships swimming for Stanford University. , who established a new American record with her finish in 2:20.70, a day after setting a world record in the 100 breaststroke.

"She did tell me later that she wouldn't have been able to go as fast if I hadn't been swimming with her," Steven said. "In that sense it was very fun to have someone to race with."

Steven will now attempt to claim one of two spots for breaststrokers on the German Olympic team. Stanford's Kristen Smyth was named coach of the year, while Oregon State's Chelsea Plourde was named freshman of the year.

Oregon State's highest individual finish Saturday was a tie for sixth in the bars by Heidi Goehring. Plourde finished seventh in the all-around competition.

Ellsbury extended his hitting streak to eight games, and he has at least two hits in 11 of his last 13 games.

Titan baseball team

wins twice at tourney

ONTARIO - The Lane Community College baseball team won twice Saturday at the Treasure Valley Tournament, beating Boise State 11-1 and Grays Harbor 6-0.

Cole Chapman allowed three hits in six innings to get the win against Boise State, while Tyler Brown knocked in two runs on two hits. Kenny Brock went 4-for-5 with two doubles against Grays Harbor, and Mike Bauman went 6 2/3 innings for the victory.

On Friday, Lane was shut out 11-0 by host Treasure Valley Community College Treasure Valley Community College is a community college located in Ontario, Oregon, at the western edge of the Treasure Valley.
