Stephen Robert Irwin (February 22, 1962 – September 4, 2006), known simply as Steve Irwin and nicknamed "The Crocodile Hunter
 was known around the globe as "the Crocodile Hunter." But Irwin, who was killed in a rare stingray stingray: see ray.

 attack on September 4, was much more. He was a wildlife conservationist whose main mission was to protect the planet's endangered animals.

"I was put on this Earth to promote conservation so people can protect wilderness areas, love wildlife, and feel energy, passion, and enthusiasm for our beautiful native animal species," Irwin told Science World in a 2002 interview.

Irwin rose to fame teaching people about wild animals WILD ANIMALS. Animals in a state of nature; animals ferae naturae. Vide Animals; Ferae naturae.  on TV shows like Animal Planet's The Crocodile Hunter. But his work began when he was a young boy on his parents' small wildlife park in Australia. There he learned how to catch crocodiles, nurse wounded birds, and raise kangaroos.

Irwin turned his parents' park into the Australia Zoo in 1991. Under Irwin's guidance, the zoo has established captive breeding captive breeding
