Sterling Internet Solutions Secures New VoIP Services Offering with Juniper Networks; Juniper Networks Firewall/VPN Appliances Deliver End-to-End VoIP Security.

BOSTON -- At the 2005 Fall VON Conference and Expo, Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:JNPR) today announced that Sterling Internet Solutions, a full-service Internet service provider (ISP) for corporations and small businesses, has chosen the Juniper Networks integrated firewall and virtual private network (VPN) solution as the backbone for its voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) offering.

With an ever-changing business environment, Sterling anticipated the need to augment its existing product offerings with a managed VoIP service aimed at small and medium sized businesses. This new service allows customers to significantly cut costs, while taking advantage of numerous features unavailable in traditional telephone systems, such as allowing users to attach documents to voice messages or participate in virtual meetings using shared data.

The appliances provide a secure and assured firewall/VPN solution for Sterling's ISP network.

Sterling also relies on Juniper Networks NetScreen-5GTs, standardized in the Sterling VoIP offering, to secure voice access over its clients' remote networks. Unlike traditional firewall offerings that open a wide range of ports to facilitate VoIP communications, the Juniper NetScreen products dynamically open and close pinholes in the firewall to maintain a tight security policy, yet not break the call. In addition to advanced VoIP security, the NetScreen-5GT includes deep inspection firewall, embedded antivirus and Web filtering to provide a safe and reliable connection between customer sites and Sterling's state-of-the-art data center.
