StereoGraphics SimulEyes VR 3D Stereo Vision Glasses to be Supported by NovaLogic; Three New Games from NovaLogic Including Upcoming Blockbuster "Comanche 3" will Support Stereoscopic 3D Glasses.

SAN RAFAEL San Rafael (săn rəfĕl`), residential city (1990 pop. 48,404), seat of Marin co., W Calif., a suburb of San Francisco on the northern shore of San Francisco Bay; inc. 1913. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 1996--StereoGraphics Corp., makers of SimulEyes VR stereo vision glasses, today announced that one of the industry's leading game publishers, NovaLogic, will support the 3D eyewear in three games due out late this summer and in early fall.

NovaLogic's new cutting edge games, Comanche 3, Armored Fist 2 - M1A2 Abrams, and F-22 Lightning II will offer true stereoscopic stereoscopic /ster·eo·scop·ic/ (ster?e-o-skop´ik) having the effect of a stereoscope; giving objects a solid or three-dimensional appearance.

3D effects for lifelike depth perception during game play. The two companies also announced plans to develop an extensive trade and consumer cross promotion campaign for their new product releases.

"Because all NovaLogic PC software is written in assembly language, the enhancement to support 3D eyewear is virtually turnkey. In addition, since our games run extremely fast, it is a breakthrough opportunity to provide consumers with spectacular stereoscopic 3D effects without requiring any hardware upgrade or expense," said John Butrovich, NovaLogic's VP of Development.

"By combining that with texture mapping In computer graphics, the application of a type of surface to a 3D image. A texture can be uniform, such as a brick wall, or irregular, such as wood grain or marble. The common method is to create a 2D bitmapped image of the texture, called a "texture map," which is then "wrapped around" , transparency, and shading effects, the overall technology threshold is one of stunning visual realism," he added.

NovaLogic is currently at work on three new games which are projected to be released in 1996. Comanche 3 and Armored Fist 2 - M1A2 Abrams introduce an innovative new graphic engine built around NovaLogic's new Voxel Space 2 terrain rendering Terrain rendering covers a variety of methods of depicting real-world or imaginary world surfaces.  technology. This new technology features highly detailed and smooth 3-D landscapes that give the user an intense sense of realism.

F-22 Lightning II introduces another benchmark technology which showcases a highly detailed polygon graphic engine. This game is designed to redefine the flight simulation market and become the new benchmark for flight enthusiasts.

"NovaLogic is excited to be working with a partner company that is also committed to providing the consumer with the latest in technology breakthroughs," said Court Shannon, VP of Sales at NovaLogic. "By partnering with StereoGraphics we are delivering enhanced value and greater product realism to the previously untapped military simulation Military simulations, also known informally as war games, are simulations in which theories of warfare can be tested and refined without the need for actual hostilities. Many professional analysts object to the term wargames  market," he added.

The shutters ensure that the left eye sees only the left image while the right eye sees only the right. When used with stereoscopic software, this system effectively emulates normal eyesight to restore depth perception.

"StereoGraphics is forging an innovative trade and consumer cross-marketing relationship with NovaLogic to build awareness and sales of this product category," said Craig Rappaport, Product Marketing Manager at StereoGraphics.

"The fact is, StereoGraphics' products have been used by the military for years in virtual reality training and simulation work. Now, Comanche 3, Armored Fist 2 - M1A2 Abrams and F-22 Lightning II bring military simulations into the home with virtually the same level of sophistication so·phis·ti·cate
