Stephen H. Clark Joins Intersouth Partners Investment Team; Thirty-Year Veteran Entrepreneur Joins as Venture Partner, Will Focus on Information Technology Investments.

DURHAM, N.C. -- Intersouth Partners, a venture capital firm focused on helping visionary entrepreneurs build high-impact companies by providing early stage capital, announced today that veteran entrepreneur Stephen H. Clark has joined the firm as a Venture Partner.

Clark founded SpectraSite Communications, Inc., a wireless communications tower operator, in 1997. As President and CEO, he grew the company to become one of the largest wireless tower operators in the United States, with more than 2,000 employees and a portfolio of 8,000 towers primarily in the top 100 markets across the country. He led the company through a period of significant growth, culminating in an initial public offering in 1999. He saw the company through a successful restructuring in 2003 and managed a $3.1 billion, all-stock merger with Boston-based American Tower Corporation (NYSE: AMT) in 2005.

Prior to founding Cary, NC-based SpectraSite Communications, Clark co-founded North Carolina-headquartered PCX Corporation, a manufacturer of electrical distribution systems. He co-founded and served as Chairman and President of Silicon Valley-based Margaux, a distributed microprocessor-based building automation company that he led through a public offering. Prior to PCX and Margaux, he founded Entech Systems Corp., a San Francisco-based building automation company.

Mr. Clark holds a B.A. and an M.B.A. from the University of Colorado and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Hughes Communications, Inc. He has been honored with the Carolinas' 2000 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the 2005 Entrepreneurial Excellence Award by the Council for Entrepreneurial Development.

With the addition of Clark, the total number of Intersouth investment professionals grows to twelve.
