Weinberg confirmed Davis has signed the richest contract in NFL history worth $90.75 million plus an additional $45 million in incentives totaling $135.75 million over nine years. Included in the deal are two signing bonuses totaling $7.5 million. Last season Davis led the NFC NFC

in rushing while establishing a new Redskins rushing record of 1,405 yards. Davis also led the NFL with 17 touchdowns.

Providing Davis the opportunity to earn even more money based on incentives is Weinberg's deal-making trademark. "We're optimistic that Stephen will perform better this year than last. This contract enables him to earn annual financial incentives officially making Stephen Davis the highest paid player in the NFL", said Weinberg. Weinberg added, " If Davis rushes for a minimum of 1,200 yards, he will earn approximately $20 million for the first three years of the deal, and if he has just one more touchdown and one more yard rushing than last year, he will earn approximately $23 million over the first three years of the contract. To put this contract in perspective, if Stephen continues to perform like he did yesterday against Carolina, he will earn nearly $27 million over the next three years".
