Stedman's Introduces New Smartype Software for Accurate Speedtyping.

Business Editors/Health/Medical Writers

BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 19, 2003

Lippincott Williams & Williams recently announced the release of Stedman's Smartype(R), the latest software to join the Stedman's brand of medical resources. Stedman's Smartype brings accuracy and speed together in a single integrated tool for medical transcription

.

After joining forces with Smartype, the transcription industry's leading speedtyping software, Stedman's re-worked and enhanced the product with its own extensive medical terminology Medical terminology is a vocabulary for accurately describing the human body and associated components, conditions, processes and procedures in a science-based manner. This systematic approach to word building and term comprehension is based on the concept of: (1) Word roots, (2)  to offer a built-in vocabulary of more than 80,000 words, compared to 36,000 for the former product.

"Conventional abbreviation abbreviation, in writing, arbitrary shortening of a word, usually by cutting off letters from the end, as in U.S. and Gen. (General). Contraction serves the same purpose but is understood strictly to be the shortening of a word by cutting out letters in the middle,  expanders can only save about 25-30% of keystrokes," notes Joe Weber, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Narratek, the Smartype company. "Stedman's Smartype can save medical transcriptionists approximately 70% of their keystrokes with our patented word-completion technology...but speed is only part of the equation. Accuracy is also critical. Smartype automatically spells, capitalizes, and hyphenates correctly. We are now thrilled at being able to accomplish this on a vocabulary that has been enhanced and quality-assured by Stedman's, the leading company in medical terminology."

Stedman's Smartype, which works with Word 2000 or Word XP, is the only speedtyping software that incorporates the SmartLine, a dynamic display that shows what will be entered if the spacebar is pressed. The SmartLine displays the text just below the typing cursor, enabling users to keep their focus on the document rather than searching for a window at the bottom of the screen - thereby further increasing productivity.

Julie Stegman, Publisher of Stedman's, adds, "Stedman's Smartype also includes a unique display of matching words to prevent the inadvertent entry of a wrong word or phrase - a common problem with conventional expanders. No one wants to go back and re-do work, and Stedman's Smartype gives transcriptionists the power to do more work in less time. Who wouldn't want that? And now that Stedman's has expanded and certified the vocabulary, Stedman's Smartype is surely the fastest transcription tool for generating the most accurate documents."
