Stealing Christmas since 1957: Story of the Grinch hasn't aged.Byline: The Register-Guard "Every Who Down in Who-ville, Liked Christmas a lot ... But the Grinch, Who lived just north of Who-ville Did not!" Those opening lines to "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" have been recited millions of times by parents and children old enough to read. The Dr. Seuss star is turning 50 this year, but no makeover is in sight. The Christmas spirit tale about the pink-eyed protaganist with a heart two sizes too small is as poignant today as it was in 1957. Evidence is the 5 million copies sold since its original publication. To celebrate, Random House Children's Books is publishing two special editions of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." The 50th Anniversary Retrospective ($24.99) includes the full text and illustrations, along with a commentary by a Seuss expert, archival images and three rarely published works - two poems and a short story that features an early version of the Grinch. The Party Edition ($14) packages the original book in a foil-covered collectible version. |
