" are some of the many great songs (800 singles and 300 LPs) created at Stax Records Stax Records is an American record label, originally based out of Memphis, Tennessee. The label was founded in 1957 by Jim Stewart as Satellite Records.

In 1961, upon realizing that there was another record company named Satellite, the label changed its name to
 in Soulsville, a small neighborhood in downtown Memphis, Tennessee Downtown Memphis, Tennessee is located on the Mississippi River between Interstate 40 to the north and Interstate 55 to the south. Today, it is home to the Stax Museum The Stax Museum of American Soul Music is a museum located at 926 East McLemore Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee at the former location of Stax Records. It is operated by Soulsville USA which also operates the adjacent Stax Music Academy.  of American Soul Music. Items on display include the saxophone, which was owned by the late Phalon Jones of the BarKays, retrieved from Otis Redding's plane crash; Albert King's flying V guitar; and Isaac Hayes' gold-plated Cadillac from the early 1970s.
