Stature of Sir Hugh Edwards VC.The Governor of Western Australia The Governor of Western Australia is the representative in Western Australia of Australia's Monarch Queen Elizabeth II. The Governor performs important constitutional, ceremonial and community functions, including:
KCMG Knight Commander of St Michael and St George KCMG Kitsap County Master Gardener (Bremerton WA) CB DSO See CSO. OBE DFC on 26 November 2002. Sir Hughie was born in Fremantle in 1909 and joined the RAAF RAAF Royal Australian Air Force RAAF n abbr (Mil) (= Royal Australian Air Force) → australische Luftwaffe f in 1935. He accepted a short service commission with the RAF the following year and served with the RAF until 1963 retiring as an Air Commodore. He was awarded the VC in 1941 for a daring low-level daylight raid over Bremen Germany. Sir Hughie was Governor of Western Australia in 1974-1975 but ill health forced an early retirement. He died in Sydney in 1982. |
