Statement for the media of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Poposki, on the occasion of the working meeting with the heads of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Macedonia.

Today's Ambassador's Council is an exceptional opportunity for sharing views about Macedonia's foreign policy. The period has been fairly intensive in terms of both the number of visits and contacts we realized and the events that occurred in 2011, which will reflect on our activities at the onset of 2012, Minister Poposki said after the working meeting.

The discussion, in its political segment, focused on the attainment of our strategic interests, that is to say, the membership of NATO NATO: see North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Bearing this in mind, I believe that 2012 will be a very busy year. We are going to have a great many activities and our whole diplomatic network will be involved in them. I trust that an exceptional opportunity has been presented, especially in view of the achievements confirmed in 2011 with the third consecutive progress report, which stated that Macedonia was prepared and recommended the Council to open membership negotiations. At the same time, we have been acting for long now as, de facto [Latin, In fact.] In fact, in deed, actually.
