State of Ohio awards Unisys major PC and services contract valued at more than $50 million.


BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 1995--Unisys Corp. Wednesday announced that it has won a contract from the state of Ohio to be a prime supplier of personal computers, peripherals and related desktop services under the Ohio SchoolNet technology program.

The contract is for one year with a one-year renewal option and has an estimated value of more than $50 million in revenue for Unisys.

Ohio SchoolNet is a state-supported program developed to facilitate the installation of computer and telecommunications technology in Ohio public school classrooms to provide students in kindergarten through 12th grade with advanced learning tools and environments.

In its contract with Unisys, the state of Ohio is providing school districts with a primary source from which to purchase the equipment and services required to meet their individual technology needs.

"Ohio's strategy with SchoolNet is a model of efficiency and fairness for providing students with the very latest and most- effective learning tools available today," said Larry Vaughan, vice president and general manager, Unisys Network Enable.

"Schools shouldn't be in the business of installing PCs or sweating out the technical intricacies of connecting to the Internet. Their job is to teach children. This contract will ensure that Ohio's schools and their students can get the learning technology they need in a timely and cost-effective manner."

Under the contract, Ohio school districts will choose from a menu of Unisys computer equipment and services to order custom-configured Unisys PW2 Advantage Series network servers and PCs.

Among the options are 90-, 100- and 120MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. Unisys Network Enable, the company's multivendor network integration unit, will provide a range of services, including system setup and on-site installation. Unisys also will provide warranty and post-warranty maintenance services.
