The digital atlas "allows the user to move through information very quickly and focus in on a particular topic more easily through zooming and other features," said Jim Meacham, InfoGraphics Laboratory director, in a news release.

Tom Hager, acting director of the UO Press, publisher of the digital atlas, said Sony's contributions allow the university to sell the product at a lower cost.

Proceeds from atlas sales will go toward the production of educational materials to help teachers and parents use the digital atlas as a teaching tool, Hager said.
