Mitchell Wing State Library of New South Wales The State Library of New South Wales is a large public library owned by the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located in Macquarie Street, Sydney near Shakespeare Place.

The public library started as the 'Australian Subscription Library' in 1826.

Sydney--State Library of New South Wales New South Wales, state (1991 pop. 5,164,549), 309,443 sq mi (801,457 sq km), SE Australia. It is bounded on the E by the Pacific Ocean. Sydney is the capital. The other principal urban centers are Newcastle, Wagga Wagga, Lismore, Wollongong, and Broken Hill. , Macquarie Street, Sydney, NSW 2000. The Nelson Meers Foundation Heritage Collection opened in the State Library of New South Wales' refurbished Dixson Galleries in January 2003, with the aim of revealing a selection of the State Library's finest objects. Over the next ten years, the Heritage Collection will showcase some of the rare, famous and most significant items from the Library's collection.
