State Department Issues Report On Religious Persecution.The U.S. State A U.S. state is any one of the fifty subnational entities of the United States, although four states use the official title "commonwealth". The separate state governments and the federal government share sovereignty, in that an American is a citizen both of the federal entity and Department issued its first annual Report on International Religious Freedom, documenting harsh treatment of religious groups in 194 countries. The report is the first to be published through the new International Religious Freedom Act, passed with bipartisan support in Congress last year.
