State Compensation Insurance Fund and Kaiser Permanente Form Alliance to Offer California Employers a Workers' Compensation/Managed Care Insurance Program.


SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 1995--State Compensation Insurance Fund and Kaiser Permanente Kaiser Permanente is an integrated managed care organization, based in Oakland, California, founded in 1945 by industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and physician Sidney R. Garfield. , Northern and Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , today announced formation of a strategic alliance to provide a workers' compensation/managed health care product to employers in three California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  markets beginning July 1, 1995.

Called the State Fund-Kaiser Permanente Alliance, the program represents the most significant initiative of its kind, bringing together California's largest workers' compensation workers' compensation, payment by employers for some part of the cost of injuries, or in some cases of occupational diseases, received by employees in the course of their work.  insurance carrier and California's largest health care organization. Tubelis added: "Covered workers also will benefit from our introduction of the program. Under the State Fund-Kaiser Permanente Alliance program, participating State Fund-insured employers will direct all employees who sustain occupational injuries to Kaiser facilities for medical care. Kaiser operates special occupational medicine clinics throughout California including ten in the test areas of Santa Rosa/San Rafael, Stockton and Orange County.

The design and features of the program benefit from the experience State Fund and Kaiser Permanente have gained during the past year in a 24-hour medical care pilot program. Since 1994, State Fund and Kaiser Permanente, under a specific legislative framework, have independently tested a 24-hour medical pilot program.

State Compensation Insurance Fund The State Compensation Insurance Fund (SCIF or State Fund) is a workers' compensation insurer that is operated as a public enterprise created by the U.S. state of California. , with more than 255,000 employer policyholders, is California's largest provider of workers' compensation insurance. State Fund provides services to its policyholders through 21 district offices throughout California. Founded in 1914, State Fund assures the availability of workers' compensation insurance to all California employers and competes with private carriers.

State Fund is a self-supporting, not-for-profit public enterprise, which returns all funds in excess of expenses, claims and surplus to its California employer policyholders.

The Kaiser Permanente Northern and Southern California regions provide health care to 4.6 million Californians. The largest regions in the Kaiser Permanente system, they are made up of 6,697 physicians, 25 medical centers and 130 medical office facilities.
